BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — October 27, 2026. State Parks announced a $31,605 safety-project award for Butte County Search and Rescue to support off-highway-vehicle-related search-and-rescue patrols. The identified areas include portions of Lassen and Plumas national forests, during summer and winter recreation.

Why this matters to residents

Backcountry patrols and rescue preparation can help when OHV riders enter remote areas without easy access to medical and towing services. Forest routes can cross several counties; the grant should not be described as funding only streets within Oroville.

What has not been confirmed

This is a project grant, not evidence that a new permanent fire station, rescue crew or visitor service is already operating. Riders still need to check routes, closures and fire restrictions with the appropriate national forest and share their trip plan.
